As an East Tennessee photographer, there are few things more meaningful than watching a child grow up through my lens. This week’s session was especially emotional and unforgettable because I’ve been photographing Preslee since her very first birthday session. That’s 15 years of photographing the same sweet girl, fifteen years of milestones, memories, and birthday portraits that have become part of her story.


And this year, to celebrate her fifteenth birthday, we took her photoshoot to vibrant downtown Knoxville, where the energy, color, and city views created the perfect setting for a fun and stylish teen birthday photoshoot.


Preslee arrived for her session wearing the cutest pink birthday dress, which stood out beautifully against the urban textures of Gay Street, Market Square, and the surrounding Knoxville cityscape. Her friends all coordinated in sleek black outfits, giving the entire group a modern, chic look that photographed perfectly. The color contrast made Preslee’s pink dress pop—and truly gave her that birthday-girl spotlight.

One thing I absolutely loved about this session was how much the girls laughed. Real, genuine, unstoppable laughter that made every moment feel joyful and unscripted. As a photographer, these candid in-between moments are gold—true memories preserved forever.


The girls were full of energy, celebrating Preslee, hyping each other up, and bringing such a fun vibe to every part of the shoot. It reminded me why I adore photographing teen sessions: the friendship, the confidence, the excitement, the pure joy!


Knoxville gave us one of its signature golden East Tennessee sunsets. The light spilled across the rooftops and reflected off the city buildings, creating a soft, glowing backdrop that made the final images absolutely breathtaking.


Sunset sessions in downtown Knoxville are always beautiful, but this one felt extra magical.


Standing there photographing Preslee at 15—tall, confident, surrounded by her closest friends—I couldn’t help but think back to her very first birthday session. The tiny one-year-old in front of my camera all those years ago has grown into a beautiful young woman, and it has been one of the greatest honors of my career to photograph her year after year.


These are the moments that remind me why I love being a photographer. It’s not just about pictures—it’s about legacy, connection, and watching families grow year after year.
